Kimmax Triple Success at MWGS Working Test

Well what a scorcher it was on Sunday. The Mid Wales Gundog Society, who are a Labrador and Spaniel Society, hosted another superb Working Test for HPR’s at Rorrington Hill near Shrewsbury.
The MWGS working test always attracts a good entry and this year was no exception with big classes in all three classifications – Puppy, Novice and Open.

Maxine and Wilma, Peter and Joker, Paul Gardiner and Milo
Three of the five Kimmax dogs entered gained major awards, winning two of the three classifications outright and being the highest placed GWP’s in all classifications.
Paul Gardiner and Milo won puppy in some style, dropping only 1 point all day. This is Milo’s third puppy win in the last three outings – quite something as the entry was very strong including a number of well respected handlers. The class was judged by Colin Wooster.
Maxine took Wilma, who is just over 2 years old, to her second Novice test. Wilma did a super bit of hunting and followed it up with some great retrieves. Great for her and Maxine to win Novice on her second attempt, but now she is in Open with the big boys so she will need a lot more training before she can compete with the top dogs. The class was judged by Richard Jupp.
Peter took Joker in the Open class. Joker was really struggling in the heat and did not perform to his normal standard in the hunting, but put in his usual impeccable retrieving performances to come 3rd overall. The class was judged by Eddie Hales (and Colin Wooster for 1 retrieving test).
Quite a result and there was a great atmosphere all day – despite getting up and down the hill !

Dear Maxine & Peter.
I would really love to be able to watch the dogs in a working test. This is very much something I would like to compete in further down the road. Thats if I make the grade as a handler ! Any advice that you can give me or pointers(no pun intended) would be so much appreciated. Is there any reading that I could be doing now ?
Ive been looking at the Gundog Club courses which seem very good. All a long way off I know but Im a big believer in preparation and dont want to leave anything to chance. The opportunity to own a dog of such calibre means so much to me and I am absolutely determined to make the most of it.
Really enjoyed the Snipe video Peter, first class.
Kind Regards
Jon
