Kimmax make breed history once again.
Not only is Peter the first and only UK handler to have ever competed, successfully in Germany, breed history was created once again this Easter weekend when Kimmax Ayscha successfully passed her VJP, making Kimmax the first and only UK Kennel to have bred a DD which has returned to Germany and competed in the VDD testing system.
Peter was delighted when the judges commented that they were very impressed with Ayscha’s quiet nature and her excellent obedience – the judges said she was the best on the day by far in “handler co-operation”.
Live Report from Peter in Germany
Ayscha did really well yesterday considering she had no time to acclimatise to the situation here, we only arrived the day before and you never practice the day before.
We really struggled to find hares at first, looked for well over an hour. By then the dogs were too hot, it was well over 22 degrees and only 9.30am. Then I think we found hare city !! We seemed to be putting hares up every minute or so.
For Ayscha, 2 hare tracks were not up to her normal standard, there was so much hare scent on the ground, she got distracted by crossing tracks of other hares – as the Germans put it, she was distracted by the ‘Hasen Autobahn’s’ (Hare Motorways – basically the tractor wheelings where many hares have run up and down).
However her middle track, after an uncertain start, demonstrated what she was capable of and they saw her true potential.
She found the track and off she went following the track perfectly for several hundred meters, including a 90 degree turn about 50m from a fairly busy road (nightmare scenario). When instructed, I recalled her and she came back immediately (unlike one of the best dogs that disappeared for a long time and caught up with us later).
Ayscha’s best moment was in the hunting when she held a super point on a hare hiding in a hedgerow.
Her obedience and quiet nature impressed the judges who also thought she was very pretty. She passed the gun shyness tests, all her teeth checked out perfect (yes they count every one) and her tattoo was validated.
Her final results were:
Spur (hare track) : 7 x 2 = 14 points (will to track good, accuracy OK)
Nase (nose quality): 10 x 2 = 20 points
Suche (hunting pattern): 9 x 1 = 9 points
Vorstehen (pointing): 10 x 1 = 10 points
Fuhrigskeit (partnership with handler): 10 x 1 = 10 points
Total score = 63 pointsShe was in the 3 youngest dogs there, most were 5-6 months older and it showed. Very pleased with the result, but we may try and improve on it if the temperature drops and I can acclimatise her. She is capable of a 10 on track and search so then she would be at 70 points and in the top 5 dogs.
Antonius’s dog, York II – Yanka’s brother, went well and got 69 points. He got similar marks to me other than a 9 for hare track and 11 for nose. Yanka’s other brother – Yuri II – was 5 points behind me.
Ayscha is now the proud owner of the first ever UK KC German Wirehaired Pointer pedigree stamped with a successful VDD working test – that was the main aim of the trip – mission accomplished.
