I agree Tail Docking when dogs are puppies is necessary with certain breeds, my friends boxers tail was always sore and bleeding at the end because she kept hitting things with it, it was eventually amputated.

This is what you will be up against. Docking IS NOT banned, it is allowed for our breed providing you can prove they are being bred to work - finding an open minded Vet is another matter (fortunately there are some left).

Ironically, in Germany, where there is a similar ban, it is mandatory to dock Drahthaar puppies if you want to register them ~(as it is a working breed, bred for hunters).

Having bought a wirehaired pointer and spent time training my dog with the gun, at four year old i was planing to take litter off her so while i was at the vets i asked about docking and chipping any puppies she might have. I was told they did not dock dogs tails because it was banned and the North West veterinary association which is Cumbria, Lancashire etc. is staunchley against docking because it was not necessary, so i said why was it necessary to castrate and dock tails of lambs using rubber bands and de-horning cattle with a hot iron or guillotine which cuts the coners off the skull.... ( ouch ) there ended the conversation, this goverment is just out to shaft anybody who has anything to do with field sports.
