Drahthaar placed in group at Crufts 2007

Posted March 8th, 2007

For the first time a Drahthaar has been placed in the gundog group at Crufts.

Ch Freddy Vom Kapellenhof at Bareve (imp Deu), known as ‘Freddy’ won the best dog, beating the 2004 Crufts Best of Breed, Ch Kimmax Kennedy. He then went up against his litter sister for Best of Breed and has just come runner up in the Gundog Group to the flatcoat retriever from Norway, SUCH/NUCH/ Almanza Far & Flyg.

Congratulations to Sharon who followed our lead and imported Freddy from Germany. Perhaps now people will look at the German breeding system and ethics in a new light and learn from this - something I have been arguing for a many years.

They have a great system with strict breeding controls that ensure not only do Drahthaars look good, but they must prove they can work before they are bred from.

I look forward to our next Drahthaar import, due to arrive in a couple of months, Timo.
