What a great weekend - despite the weather !

Posted July 22nd, 2007

Our plans this weekend got disrupted by the weather, but we still had a great weekend of working tests and shows.

Ch Just Joking for Kimmax JW ShCM On Saturday, Peter had to work, so Maxine took Joker, Ch Just Joking for Kimmax JW ShCM, to the Working Test run by Coventry and District Gundog Society. Joker put in a flawless performance under judges Paul Gardiner and Rob Blacker-Kyle, to win Open convincingly - 6 points ahead of the second place dog. This is his third Open win this year and ‘Kimmax’ dogs have won more Open tests than any other kennels so far this year.

On Sunday, Peter was off to another working test with Joker but it was cancelled due to flooding, so he went to Leeds Championship Show.

Leeds Championship Show saw judge, John Sheridan, with one of the best entries of the year - almost as many as the Breed Championship Show a few weeks ago. We had a super day.

First with our german young import Timo, Timo II V Bockenhagen at Kimmax (imp deu), winning Reserve Best Dog (his 3rd RCC) and still only 13 months.

Next, with Wilma, Kimmax Three’s A Krowd, who won Best Bitch (her first CC) and also gained the final points needed for her Junior Warrant at the same time.

Finally, Pauline, Sh Ch Pauline II V Bockenhagen at Kimmax (imp deu) showed her class again to win a large Limit class and take the Reserve Best Bitch and another RCC.

Not bad - we entered 3 dogs and came away with the Bitch CC and both RCC’s. Many thanks to Judge John Sheridan for his thoughtful assessments.

You said that at the breed Championship Show (which you didn’t attend) it was the lowest entry for many years and yet here you have put ‘Leeds Championship Show saw judge, John Sheridan, with one of the best entries of the year - almost as many as the Breed Championship Show a few weeks ago. We had a super day.‘ Would that then mean that the entry at Leeds (where you did so well, congratulations) was very small too?

The Breed Club Championship Show and Crufts have always carried the best entries of any year. In 1998 the Breed Club Championship show under breed specialist judge Pam Blay had an entry of 133 dogs Going back even further to 1991, when the breed was still relatively new, there was a Breed Club Championship show entry of 82 therefore, an entry of 40 dogs for 2007 is the lowest we have ever had, certainly from 1990 onwards.

All the other general Champ shows with CC’s on offer usually have entries of between 20 to 50 dogs depending on the judge, therefore we were delighted to do so well at Leeds with the largest entry so far this year at a General Championship show, thank you for the congratulations.
